How to measure a room before moving furniture
A useful plan starts with repeatable measurements. This guide helps you record the space furniture can actually use.
Measure wall to wall
Measure width and length at baseboard level. Note columns, radiators or projections that reduce the usable rectangle.
Record doors and windows
Measure each width, its wall and the space the door leaf needs when it swings. A door is more than a line in a plan.
Measure actual furniture
Use width and depth, including handles and protruding parts. For a chair, also record the space needed to sit and stand.
